Curt Gowdy State Park

Back in early October, my human needed to travel from Portland, Oregon to southern Illinois. That was such a long trip, and I mean looooong!!! Three days driving one way. My human did try to stop every day at a trail so we could stretch our legs, but not all those stops were good. Some were too close to the road (I don't like cars much) while others had no trees or tall grasses for me to play in. Boring! Bor-ing.

However, there was one State Park that was not bad. Curt Gowdy State Park just west of Cheyenne, Wyoming.

My human thought it was a terrible place to go camping. There was a lovely lake, but none of the camp sites had water hookups. There were no flush toilets or shower houses. You could not put boats on the lake or swim in it. All you could do is hike and fish from a dock or the shore.

I don't see any problems here.

I never use flush toilets. I bathe daily without water. I NEVER trust boats, and, honestly, swimming??? I go hiking all the time, and fish, well, that sounds delicious! I found the park lovely.

We found an area next to an archery range that was back off the main road. There were a few deer there grazing, but no other people.

The deer were a little too big for me to take down and they didn't seem interested in me either. In my opinion, if it isn't prey and it isn't predator, you just leave it alone. So that's what I did. I left them alone and they just kept grazing. My human enjoyed watching them. I was too busy exploring the area. There was tall grass and some lovely birch trees in their fall colors.

I could smell all the birds and small mammals that had been there before me. They were so lucky to have left the area. I sooo would have given THEM my attention. Sooo would have.

We walked around a bit enjoying the colors and the solitude. We both had a snack and took care of nature (if you know what I mean) then got back on the road. We were there maybe 30 to 45 minutes, but it was a very nice break from riding in that car!!!

Till next time, keep wandering my friends. And remember, how great a place is depends on your perspective.
